The Veggie Vouchers Program is a locally financed program that increases access to fruits and vegetables among vulnerable and under-served populations. The program, which has been serving Waterloo since 2016 had led to the redemption of over $118,100 worth of vouchers at local farm direct sites.
To our earthly angel! Thank you so much for the farmers market coupons! We are so grateful. Stocking up on veggies in the freezer for winter. Truly a blessing! My sister Velma and I have enjoyed trips to the farmers market. She sits in the car while I make the rounds! Love and thanks. - Mattie
The University of Northern Iowa Center for Energy and Environmental Education (CEEE) Local Food Program partners with a number of local clinics and non-profits that are already serving the community and provide them with the $5 Veggie Vouchers. From there, our partners are able to distribute the vouchers to their clients that are most in need of the program. These vouchers can be redeemed by clients at local farmers markets and farm stands during the growing season.
A woman was just diagnosed with cancer in June and is unable to work at this time due to treatment. She states these will help her eat healthy and help with her food budget because at the time she has no income and is waiting for disability to start for her to get more money for groceries. โ Crystal Schmitz, Community Program Coordinator at Black Hawk County Public Health

Participating in the Veggie Vouchers Program aligns perfectly with our mission to elevate urban farming cooperation. The program has enabled our business to source more food from our network of local farmers, help low income families take home more fresh fruits and vegetables, and as a result, build community by increasing access to local and affordable, healthy food options through education and outreach. - DaQuan Campbell, founding farmer of WeArose
