As the ONLY four-year gerontology program in the state of Iowa, UNI prepares students for a career in caring while addressing the elder care workforce crisis. Approximately half of UNI gerontology students work in nursing homes after graduation, with others working in a wide variety of senior support services.
Your support will enhance UNI students’ education and remove financial barriers by providing stipends for internships. During their internships, students will help with Dementia House operations, conduct simulations and educate individuals and businesses on how to be dementia friendly.
The Need
Join us in raising $10,000 to fund four student internships, providing each student with a $2,500 stipend. Thanks to the generosity of two anonymous donors, the first $5,000 raised will be matched — effectively doubling your gift and maximizing the impact of your support
As the post-World War II Baby Boom generation ages there will inevitably be an increase in the incidence of dementia across the general population. While there is as yet no cure for this devastating condition, there are ways in which its impact on those who experience it and those who care for them can be at least ameliorated by helping as many people as possible to better understand the nature and progression of this degenerative disease and its consequences for all involved. We believe that facilities such as UNI’s Dementia Simulation House have a crucial role to play in this educational process and are pleased to play a small role in its support.
